OPCW briefs on work in Syria
OPCW-UN Special Coordinator Sigrid Kaag briefed the NATO-Russia Council on 20 November.
The NATO-Russia Council was briefed by The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on the work being carried out to eliminate Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal, on 20 November.
OPCW-UN Joint Mission Special Coordinator Sigrid Kaag updated NRC Ambassadors on the important work being done by the OPCW-UN team in Syria and coordinating the international community’s contributions. Ms. Kaag detailed the mission’s progress to date as well as the challenges they face as they continue to support work towards the elimination of Syrian chemical weapons in accordance with the timelines laid out.
The NATO-Russia Council nations’ representatives welcomed the briefing to the NATO-Russia Council, and underlined the importance of the OPCW-UN Joint Mission’s work in Syria. A number of NRC Ambassadors referenced the pledges for national contributions that have already been made in support of the work, which will continue to require the support of the entire international community.
