Successsful trial for ISAF transit arrangements

NATO and the Russian Federation held a post-exercise evaluation meeting to conclude the successful movement of cargo to and from Afghanistan, through Ulyanovsk transit point, in a virtual trial. The route is designed to support the movement of non-lethal cargo in support of ISAF.

The meeting was hosted by the Latvian Ministry of Defence in Riga, on 11 October 2012. It concluded the month long virtual exercise, focused on agreeing operating procedures along with paperwork and customs clearance requirements for the multi-modal transportation of cargo. The successful conclusion of the exercise prepares NATO and Russia for the next step - a physical proof of principle trial moving cargo to and from Afghanistan in the next few months.
