Grenade Attack in Vitina

Yesterday afternoon just after 4 o'clock a homemade bomb was thrown into a Serb Café in the town of Vitina. Eight people were injured in the attack, two of them quite seriously.

The two men, and a third with minor injuries, were rushed to the Camp Bondsteel (US) military hospital. The others refused treatment on the scene. All the injured are suffering from shrapnel wounds but are resting quietly and are in stable condition. They are all expected to recover.

UNMIK Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the attack, however they have been released due to a lack of evidence.

Weapons confiscated and arrests made

No weapons were found during road checks or house searches during the past 24 hours.

Serbians visit their homes

About 125 Serbs from Kosovo and Serbia visited their homes in Zitinje yesterday under the close protection of KFOR Multinational Brigade East troops. The day passed without incident.

Serb leaders meet in Orahovac

Serbian leaders, including Bishop Artemije and local politicians, met with KFOR officials in Orahovac today to discuss several pressing issues. The most important demand was for KFOR vigilance against violence during the New Year 's celebrations next weekend.

They were assured that KFOR and UNMIK presence will be robust and visible in their communities and that no unrest or crime will be tolerated.

Drive-by shooting

A man was shot in the ankle after dark last night in Kamenica, Multinational Brigade East, from a passing car. He is in stable condition in hospital and UNMIK Police are investigating.

Disrespect for abandoned homes

Last night in the Bosnian quarter of North Mitrovica, Multinational Brigade North, a vacant Serb house was set on fire. The fire was extinguished. UNMIK Police are investigating.

Again, late last night, in Kmetouce, Multinational Brigade East, a grenade was thrown into a vacant Serb house. UNMIK Police are investigating.
