KFOR Press Statement

  • A KFOR-AUTHORISED UCK PARADE WILL TAKE PLACE IN ORAHOVAC FROM 3 TO 5:00 PM TO MARK THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF WHAT THE UCK CALLS THE "WAR COMMEMORATION DAY". DETAILS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • UP TO 300 UCK IN UNIFORM FROM 124TH UCK BRIGADE ARE ALLOWED TO ATTEND.
  • AT LEAST ONE UCK ZONE COMMANDER MUST BE PRESENT.
  • OTHER UCK MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO ATTEND BUT ONLY IN CIVILIAN CLOTHES.
  • THEY WILL MEET AT 15:00 AT THE LOCAL MOSQUE AND THEN MOVE TO THE CEMETERY.
  • A SALUTE WILL TAKE PLACE WITH THREE CEREMONIAL FIRING SHOTS AUTHORISED.
  • AT 17:00 THE RETURN TO THE MOSQUE WILL BE COMPLETED AND THE PARADE WILL DISBAND AND UCK PERSONNEL WILL RETURN TO THEIR ASSEMBLY AREAS.

  • AT 10:00 TODAY A RUSSIAN CONVOY OF 35 VEHICLES AND 100 SOLDIERS WILL LEAVE THE PRISTINA AIRFIELD AND WILL MOVE TO KOSOVSKA KAMENICA. THEY WILL JOIN UP WILL RUSSIAN BATTALION ELEMENTS ALREADY ON LOCATION.

    NOW FOR AN OPERATIONAL ROUND-UP:

  • YESTERDAY AT 14:00 A PATROL IN ZITINVE, (10KMS SOUTH WEST OF GNJALANE) HEARD SHOT S. IT INVESTIGATED AND FOUND AN ETHNIC SERB WHO HAD BEEN SHOT DEAD. HIS WIFE WITNESSED THE MURDER AND ONE ALBANIAN MAN IS NOW BEING DETAINED.

  • AT 21:20 YESTERDAY TROOPS RESPONDED TO GUNFIRE IN KLINA AND FOUND TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED MEN. THEY WERE TAKEN TO THE FIELD HOSPITAL IN BANJA FOR SURGERY. THEY ARE BELIEVED TO BE EGYPTIANS.

  • AT 23:15 LAST NIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF DAKOVICA, AN ALBANIAN WAS SHOT DEAD IN APPEARED TO BE A DRIVE BY SHOOTING. NO ARRESTS WERE MADE. LOCALS STATED HE WAS A UCK SOLDIER.

  • THERE WAS ANOTHER DEMONSTRATION ON THE BRIDGE IN MITROVICA LAST NIGHT BETWEEN AND 20.00 AND 23:00. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 200 ETHNIC ALBANIANS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE AND SOME 300 SERBS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE. THERE WERE NO INCIDENTS.

  • FRENCH GENDARMES CONDUCTED TWO SEARCHES LAST NIGHT IN THE SERBIAN PART OF MITROVICA - ONE IN A LOCAL RESTAURANT THE OTHER IN A GROCERY STORE. NOTHING WAS FOUND IN THE RESTAURANT, BUT IN THE GROCERY STORE, THEY FOUND 4 AK-47 WITH MAGAZINES AND 1 GRENADE. 4 ETHNIC SERBS ARE BEING DETAINED FOR FURTHER QUESTIONING.

  • AT 10:00 PM LAST NIGHT IN GLAVOTINA (MNB NORTH), AN ALBANIAN WAS ARRESTED. HE WAS IN POSSESSION OF AN AK 47, 1 RIFLE, 2 GRENADES, AND SOME 300 ROUNDS OF SMALL ARM AMMUNITIONS.

  • AT 11:15 PM LAST NIGHT 2 UCK WERE DETAINED LAST NIGHT FOR THREATENING AN ALBANIAN FAMILY IN MITROVICA.

  • AT 11:30 PM TWO HOUSE FIRES WERE REPORTED IN VUCITRN.

  • AT 2:00 O'CLOCK THIS MORNING A SENTRY AT THE PARACHUTE BATTALION HQ IN LEPOSAVIC, IN MNB NORTH. THEY WERE FIRST ATTACKED WITH A KNIFE. THE SENTRY RETURNED FIRE BUT THE ATTACKER FLED. ONE SENTRY SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. HE WAS TREATED AND IS BACK ON DUTY.

    IN GENERAL THE MULTI-NATIONAL BRIGADES HAVE REPORTED FEWER INCIDENTS IN THEIR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY. THE NUMBER OF ARSONS AND LOOTING APPEARS TO BE DOWN.

    THE TOTAL OF KFOR TROOPS IN THEATRE IS APPROXIMATELY 42,000 - 33,500 OF WHICH ARE IN KOSOVO AND THE REMAINDER ARE IN FYROM.
