ISAF News Conference

ISAF spokesman General Carlos Branco briefs local and international media on the latest operations conducted by ISAF and the Afghan National Security Forces in different parts of Afghanistan. “Insurgents are circumscribed to certain areas of the country and are not expanding their activities nationwide,” he says.

General Branco also announces that, during an operation aimed at finding a Taleban compound, forces discovered 180kg of opium as well as military equipment; the two issues which, according to him, “describe what the Taleban really stands for.”

McNeill (Commander ISAF) briefs the Afghan and international media on the current situation in Afghanistan, highlighting several improvements in the country. “There are more Afghan children in school than ever in the history of the country,” he says. “There are more roads constructed and reconstructed than the history of the country has known.” He also mentions significant growth in the Afghan economy and gains in health care.
