ISAF Service Member Killed in Southern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan - An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member was killed yesterday when his patrol struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in southern Afghanistan.

“It is with much sadness that I learned about the death of this ISAF service member.  To the bereaved family members and friends I express my profound condolences,” said Brigadier General Eric Tremblay, ISAF Spokesperson.

“He gave his life to bring much needed security and stability to Afghanistan and in this crucial role, he contributed splendidly.  We will not forget his immense sacrifice.”

Air Force Capt. Elizabeth Mathias, a U.S. spokesperson, confirmed that the deceased is U.S. service member. 

ISAF is a key component of the international community’s engagement in Afghanistan, assisting the Afghan authorities in providing security and stability and creating the conditions for reconstruction and development.
