ISAF service member killed in southern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan – An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member was killed today in southern Afghanistan when his patrol was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and then attacked by insurgents with small arms fire.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of yet another one of ISAF’s finest, who gave his life to offer freedom to the Afghans,” said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, ISAF Spokesperson.

“We must not only grieve but soldier on with this mission, for our fellow ISAF comrades and Afghan security partners who aim to make a difference in the lives of each and every Afghan.”

It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
