Commander ISAF, condemns suicide attack

KABUL, Afghanistan - This morning, a suicide bomber detonated himself in an Afghan National Security Forces facility in the Tirin Kot district of Uruzgan province, southern Afghanistan. In the process he killed 20 Afghan National Policemen, and wounded at least eight others.

General McKiernan, Commander International Security Assistance Force, offered his sincere condolences to the families of those killed, and sympathies for those injured by this callous and indiscriminate attack.

“We strongly condemn this attack, calculated to cause maximum casualties to Afghan National Security Forces. Once again this shows the insurgents’ complete disregard for the lives of fellow Afghans.”

He added: “These criminals have and will use the most extreme forms of violence to try and disrupt the rebuilding of Afghanistan and sow fear in the population. ISAF remains steadfast in its support for the Government and, in particular, our colleagues in the Afghan National Police. We stand together and will continue to give our full support to this critical mission.”
