Local National injured by ISAF forces in Nad-e-Ali

KABUL, Afghanistan - A local national man was injured by ISAF forces in Nad-e-Ali yesterday in an escalation of force incident.

The man was driving fast and erratically towards a joint ANSF and ISAF patrol and failed to react to verbal instructions or two sets of warning shots. ISAF troops, perceiving the individual to pose an imminent threat to their lives, shot the individual, wounding him in the shoulder.

The man was given immediate medicsal assistance by ISAF troops and then taken by helicopter to the military hospital in Camp Bastion for further treatment.

ISAF regrets any injury to innocent civilians. ISAF soldiers are trained to take appropriate steps to minimize civilian casualties, whilst at the same time taking action to protect themselves when threatened.

In this incident the man did not react to the warning shots. It is vital for their safety that civilians react immediately to instructions from Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF soldiers.

ISAF runs frequent public service announcements and advertising campaigns aimed at keeping the local population informed about the need to follow the directions given by ISAF personnel, when encountered, as they travel throughout the region, for their safety as well as for that of ISAF’s troops.
