KABUL, Afghanistan — The Provincial Reconstruction Team of Herat recently finished several key projects developed by ISAF CIMIC (Civilian and Military Cooperation) in support of the local population of the Heart city.

The PRT provided 20 electric heaters to the Herat Regional Hospital Burn Centre to help counter the cooling temperatures. About 70 percent of the burn victims are children, and the heaters will help to improve their living conditions.

The PRT also presented the Herat Regional Hospital with a new communications system.

Another project helped to improve the hygiene and sanitary conditions in Herat city, when the PRT completed work on two kilometres of the city’s sewage network, helping to fend off future epidemics.

In the Enjil district, a schoolhouse in an Owzi Karbaz village received an eight-classroom addition scheduled to open at the beginning of the new year.

The local authorities have expressed their gratitude for the efforts made by the PRT in their reconstruction of Herat.
