Dutch minister visits Uruzgan, opens school

KABUL, Afghanistan - The Dutch Development Cooperation Minister Bert Koenders recently visited Uruzgan where he opened a school in Tarin Kowt and saw the progress of other development projects.

When the minister opened the school, he presented volleyballs and a net; volleyball is one of the national sports of Afghanistan. During his stay he also walked through a number of Uruzgan’s urban areas visiting various projects.

“The work done by [Afghan National Security Forces], ISAF forces and [Islamic Republic of Afghanistan] officials to support development projects is really impressive,” Minister Koenders said.

He discussed future projects with Assadullah Hamdam, the Uruzgan governor, and representatives of non-governmental organisations in the region.

“Reconstruction and development impacts directly on the security situation and is an important measure of progress,” Minister Koenders said.
