KABUL, Afghanistan - A ceremony inaugurating the work put towards a new 16-room high school took place on the morning of 31 October in Herat city.

ISAF’s Herat Provincial Reconstruction Team is building the school at the request of the local education department chief. The goal is to improve the city’s school capacity. This school will provide classes for almost 2,300 students, who are currently taking classes under improvised tents.

During the symbolic ceremony, Ghulam Hazrattanah, chief of the Education Department, thanked Colonel Luca Covelli, chief of the PRT, for ISAF’s help in developing the educational sector.

This project is linked with the Herat PRT’s goal of “two schools in each district” that improves the province’s educational structure for the future of Afghan youth.
