Supplies for new bridge arrive at Murgab River

KABUL, Afghanistan - All the materials necessary to build a bridge across Murgab River arrived at the Bala Murgab Afghan National Police garrison in Badghis this morning.

Brigadier General Paolo Serra, commander of Regional Command-West, was present during the arrival of the convoy. He said the new bridge is essential to improve freedom of movement for civilians along the main road in western Afghanistan.

The bridge-building has been made possible through new partnerships between RC-West, ISAF, the Afghan National Security Forces and the elders and citizens of the valley.

About three weeks ago, an ISAF engineer unit loaded the materials in multiple containers in Kabul, with the advice of the engineer cell of the Regional Command-Capital. Simultaneously, RC-West’s engineer cell in Bala Murgab started the construction of the concrete shoulders that will support the bridge. The placement of the 43-metre construction will begin in November.
