ISAF troops target insurgents in Wardak province

KABUL, Afghanistan - International Security Assistance Force soldiers went on the offensive during a two-day operation in Wardak province, killing more than 20 insurgents.

On October 16, the troops air assaulted into Jalrez District and were attacked immediately by insurgents with small-arms fire, rocket-propelled grenades, and rockets.  Close-air support was called in to engage the enemy, and the insurgents were pushed south into the Nerkh District.

Upon their arrival in Nerkh, the ISAF soldiers once again received heavy enemy fire.  After ten hours of fighting, ISAF troops countered the insurgent threat and secured both the Jalrez and Nerkh Districts.

No ISAF soldiers were killed during the engagements.
