ANSF, ISAF successfully stop insurgent attack

KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security Forces with support from ISAF soldiers successfully responded to an insurgent attack on a key road-paving project in Panjwayi district, Kandahar, September 10.

A group of about eight insurgents attacked the road construction crew with light weapons and rocket-propelled grenades. ANSF, which was providing security to the project, responded and took the lead on clearing the insurgents out of the area. ISAF soldiers and attack helicopters supported the ANSF during the engagement.

No casualties were sustained in the attack.

“Today’s successful response to an insurgent attack on a major Afghan infrastructure project is a fine example of the Afghan National Security Forces’ continued progress,” said Brigadier General Richard Blanchette, ISAF spokesperson. “The insurgents continue to demonstrate blatant disregard not only for development and infrastructure projects, but also for the lives of Afghans who are rebuilding Afghanistan.”
