12 Detained in joint operation

KABUL, Afghanistan - International Security Assistance Forces, in conjunction with Afghan National Police, detained 12 suspected insurgents and discovered a weapons cache in the Qarabaugh District of Ghazni Province August 26


The joint forces raided numerous suspected Taliban strongholds in the Qarabaugh District as part of Operation Radu Barq V.  They also detained a known Taliban leader after he was found hiding beneath the floor of his house.

In the courtyard of the house, ISAF Soldiers and the ANP confiscated numerous munitions including rocket-propelled grenades and IED-making materials.

The soldiers held a shura with local elders following the search to discuss the outcome of the operation, and contact has been made with the provincial governor to inform him of the outcome as well.

Operation Radu Barq, which means “thunder” in English, is an ongoing ANA-led operation conducted in the southern portion of Regional Command East.
