ISAF helps Afghans fight fire in Kunduz city

KABUL, Afghanistan - ISAF soldiers assisted local fire fighters when a blaze began at 8 p.m. at a market in Kunduz city August 24.

Upon the request of the local police chief, soldiers with the German Provincial Reconstruction Team helped the Kunduz fire department. While the Afghan and German fire fighters used 10,000 litres of water and foam to extinguish the blaze, other German soldiers helped the Afghan National Police with controlling the scene of the incident.

The fire raged for two hours before the joint effort of the fire fighters was able to get the fire under control.

One ISAF soldier was treated for exhaustion in a hospital after the endeavour and is expected to fully recover soon.
