ISAF commander condemns recent attacks

KABUL, Afghanistan - Six suicide bombers are dead after an unsuccessful attack on a U.S. base in Khowst province August 19.

General David McKiernan, ISAF commander, praised the bravery and professionalism of the Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF soldiers for deterring these terrorist attacks that, if not detected and deterred, could have caused considerably more damage and loss of life.

In a second attack, 10 French ISAF soldiers were killed and 21 injured when insurgents attacked a patrol in Kabul province Aug. 18. The general sends his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the brave French soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in trying to bring peace and security to the people of Afghanistan.

“These tactics will not succeed, and the insurgency will not win,” he said.
