ISAF meets with local elders in Maywand, Kandahar

KABUL, Afghanistan - The leader of Kandahar’s Maywand district, Haji Mohammad, met with local elders of the Band-e-Timor area at a shura in Karez Wal village August 7.

The shura lasted for a few hours with security provided by the Afghan National Police and ISAF.

Almost 100 locals attended the meeting to discuss their requirements and concerns. The main topics discussed were security and improving the water supply.

The district leader explained that assisting Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF to remove the insurgents from the area will help create the conditions necessary for reconstruction and development to begin.

Also addressing the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Huw Williams, the commander the British Royal Army’s 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, commented on ISAF’s commitment to the region. He said efforts to increase the influence of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan would be boosted by an enduring ISAF presence in the Band-e-Timor area.
