Plans call for building second
ANA barracks in Farah

KABUL, Afghanistan - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently announced plans to build a second Afghan National Army brigade garrison in Farah province, this one in Delaram district.

With construction currently under way for an ANA garrison to house 2,000 soldiers near Farah city, the second garrison in Delaram will house 4,000 soldiers.

“The first phase will be for 1,000 soldiers, but master planning is being done that would make it possible to expand to 4,000,” said Joseph Lapeyre, who is overseeing both projects.

The facility will include barracks, latrines, showers, laundry facilities, a morale and welfare building, headquarters, dining facility, power plant, communications building, maintenance shop, wells, septic system, soccer field and running track.

The 360-day project will employ 500 labourers, both skilled and unskilled, during the first phase.

“This will be a very positive development for the ANA. It will enhance the ANA’s ability to provide security for Farah, Nimroz and Helmand provinces,” said Afghan Colonel Nematullah, commander of the 3-1 Kandak in Farah city.

FCEC UI Construction Company won the contract for both sites. Construction will begin on the ANA garrison in August.
