French TF Chimera assumes authority in Kapisa

KABUL, Afghanistan - U.S. Task Force Gladiator handed over responsibility for operations in Kapisa province to French Task Force Chimera with a transfer-of-authority ceremony at Forward Operating Base Morales-Frazier July 20.

TF Chimera commander, French Colonel Jacques Aragones, thanked TF Gladiator and TF Warrior for their support during the last several weeks as the French deployed into the province.

“Thanks to you, we have been able to deploy under good conditions, especially with good situational awareness,” he said. “A relief-in-place is always a difficult task to carry out, especially between two nations which don’t speak the same language and don’t use the same equipment.”

France has deployed infantry battalions, special forces, aircraft and ships in support of ISAF and coalition operations in Afghanistan since September 11, 2001.

TF Chimera is comprised of the 8th Marine Parachute Regiment.
