ISAF kills Taliban leader in Helmand

KABUL, Afghanistan - ISAF forces targeted and killed high-level Taliban commander Mullah Sheikh and two of his followers in the vicinity of Musa Qala, Helmand province early this morning.

Mullah Sheikh commanded a large group of insurgents who have been actively engaged in an intimidation campaign against the Afghan people. He and his followers are responsible for facilitating frequent attacks against the Afghan people, the use of IEDs against Afghan National Security Force and ISAF forces, and numerous crimes in and around Helmand province, in particular the Musa Qala district.

“We have removed yet another Taliban enemy leader who will no longer threaten the peace and security of Afghanistan,” said British Royal Navy Captain Mike Finney, ISAF spokesperson. “The death of Mullah Sheikh will further degrade the Taliban’s ability to conduct operations in and around Helmand.”
