ISAF donates supplies to orphanage in Herat

KABUL, Afghanistan - Italian soldiers with ISAF delivered a donation to Hazrat Khuja Abdullah Ansari Orphanage in Herat June 21.

The donation comprised of more than 3 tons of food, medicines, clothes and school materials. People in Italy donated the items at the request of military members with the 46th Air Force Brigade in Pisa, Regional Meteorological Centre in Milan and 66th Airmobile Infantry Regiment in Forli.  These units led the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan.

“I would like to thank ISAF,” said Mohammad Nasser Athai, a member of the Afghan parliament. He added, “ISAF intervention in support of the human rights is always outstanding and unlimited.”

Among the authorities at the event were Alhamohammad Refiq Mujadadi, mayor of Herat; Said Osain Osaini, chief of the social affairs department; and Mr. Athai. Brigadier General Francesco Arena, commander of ISAF’s Regional Command West, and Colonel Giuseppe Levato, commander of the Italian PRT, represented ISAF.

The Lala Japanese Organization and Bayat Foundation founded the Hazrat Khuja Abdullah Ansari orphanage in 2005 through donations. It currently provides a home for 283 orphans, most with ages between 6 and 18 years.
