ISAF disrupts IED placement
in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan – ISAF soldiers successfully disrupted insurgents from planting an improvised explosive device today on a road in Khogyani District, Nangarhar province.

ISAF soldiers spotted four men digging on the side of a public road. When sent to investigate, the soldiers came under small-arms fire from the four men.

ISAF engaged the insurgents in an open field and called for air support. Three insurgents were able to flee the scene. 

IED material consisting of mortar, artillery and recoilless rifle rounds, a pressure plate and battery, as well as a pistol were found near the digging site

ISAF denies accusations of killing one adult and his child that were reported today in the media. All ISAF >engagements concerning this incident occurred outside of populated areas and no civilians were harmed by ISAF troops during that operation.

ISAF soldiers at the location report that less than 100 people have gathered at the scene, peacefully expressing concern about the incident. 

ISAF forces, Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police are currently searching the area for the remaining individuals.

No ISAF casualties were reported in the area.
