Spanish Crown Prince visits Regional Command West

KABUL, Afghanistan – His Royal Highness, Felipe de Borbón, heir to the Spanish throne, has visited the Spanish-led Herat Forward Supporting Base (FSB), in order to know first-hand the activities undertaken by the Spanish personnel in Afghanistan.

Iin his way from Qala-e Naw (Badghis Province) where he had visited the Spanish troops of the Provincial Reconstruction Team, Felipe was welcomed by Regional Command West Commander Brigadier General Francesco Arena and the FSB Herat Commander, Colonel Fernando Horcada.

Once he got honoured at Spain’s Square, he visited the Spanish compound facilities and the Role-2 hospital, inaugurating a brand-new library for the personnel living in Camp Arena.

After paying homage to the Spanish soldiers fallen in Afghanistan, his royal highness headed to the Spanish mess hall to have a brunch and a toast to Juan Carlos, King of Spain. Next, Felipe addressed the troops where he remarked his eagerness to pay a visit to the Spanish personnel posted in Afghanistan. He also brought some words from the King, pointing out that “Juan Carlos is proud of your work and your sacrifice so far away from home”.

Once this event finished, he signed both FSB and RC-West honour books and was presented some tokens of appreciation from the RC-West Commander and FSB Commander.

With satisfaction in his eyes, the Prince stepped into his plane and left Afghanistan, knowing his troops in the Spanish PRT were getting the job done.
