Three Afghan children killed
by unexploded ordnance

KABUL, Afghanistan – Three Afghan children died Wednesday 21 May in an explosion in Pashtunkot district, Fariab province.

Initial investigation by the Afghan National Police and Meymaneh Provincial Reconstruction Team police shows the cause of the explosion was an unexploded ordnance, which was lying on the ground.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to the families of these children,” said Brigadier General Carlos Branco, ISAF spokesperson. “This tragic accident highlights the importance to not touch or approach unexploded ordnances (UXOs). Instead, anyone who finds a UXO should contact Afghan or ISAF authorities who will take the necessary steps to make the area safe and properly dispose of the ordnance.”
