Herat PRT inaugurates comprehensive health centre

KABUL, Afghanistan – The Italian-led Herat Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) inaugurated a Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC) in Sirwan, Owbi District, Herat province Thursday.

The ceremony was lead by Dr. Ghulam Sayed Rashid, provincial public health director, and Colonel Giuseppe Levato, Italian PRT commander. Many people from surrounding villages attended the inauguration.

A Civilian and Military Cooperation (CIMIC) team of engineers belonging to the Herat PRT managed the construction  and building site.  The construction of the CHC also contributed to the local businesses and economy by contracting Afghan contractors who employ locals.

The CHC will provide easy access to a health care centre for 40,000 local inhabitants eliminating the five-hour drive on 80 kilometres of unpaved road to the Herat hospital.
