ISAF teaches ANA counter IED operations

KABUL, Afghanistan – A new group of Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have started specialized training on counter improvised explosive device (C-IED) operations at Camp Zafar, home of the 207th ANA Corps.

The training provides ANA engineers with a general C-IED background and awareness of the risks of IEDs, unexploded ordnance and mines.

ISAF engineers are also teaching their Afghan colleagues how to recognize and dispose of explosive devices. Training includes scenarios where ANA soldiers encounter IED indicators during exercises with IED attacks.

The provision of mentoring, training and equipment to the ANA is one of ISAF’s key military tasks. Improvised Explosive Device Disposal training is also provided through the ISAF C-IED Training Center in Mazar-e-Sharif.

The 207th ANA Corps will also form its own specialized Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) team, capable of conducting full-scale interventions.
