ISAF strongly condemns insurgent attack in marketplace in Nimruz

KABUL, Afghanistan – ISAF joins President Karzai and the Ministry of Interior in condemning the senseless act of violence carried out by murderous criminals when a suicide bomber attacked a market Thursday in Zaranj city, Nimruz province, murdering 27 innocent civilians and injuring 30 others.

"ISAF members would like to offer its sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured in today’s atrocious attack", said Brigadier General Carlos Branco, ISAF spokesperson. "The bomber’s target was in a busy market. We strongly condemn this indiscriminate attack that clearly shows the insurgents are desperate in their efforts to destabilize this country, without any concerns for the lives of innocent Afghan citizens."

"Although ISAF troops were not involved in this incident, we are working hard alongside the Afghan National Security Forces to make this country a more secure place so that the Afghan people can go about their business without fear of attack from these murderers", said Brig. Gen. Branco. "This action will not deter the Afghan government or ISAF in our efforts to improve the quality of life for Afghan citizens."

Afghan authorities are leading an investigation into this incident.
