ISAF condemns insurgent attack on civilians

KABUL, Afghanistan – ISAF condemns the senseless act of violence carried out by insurgents when a suicide bomber attacked civilian construction workers today in Khash Rod district, Nimruz province, leaving two civilians workers dead and injuring eight others.

The attack also resulted in the death of two insurgents, one wounded insurgent and one insurgent being detained by Afghan National Police (ANP).

“I would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the Afghans killed and injured in today’s senseless act,” said Brigadier General Carlos Branco, ISAF spokesperson. “The bomber’s target was the construction company that was only trying to improve roads to help the people of Afghanistan. We strongly condemn this indiscriminate attack that clearly shows the insurgents are desperate in their efforts to destabilize this country.”

“Although ISAF troops were not involved in this incident, we are working hard alongside the ANSF and Afghan National Police to make this country a better, more secure place,” said Brig. Gen. Branco. “This action will not deter the Afghan government or ISAF in our efforts to improve security and quality of life for Afghan citizens.”

Afghan authorities are leading an investigation into this incident.
