ISAF strongly condemns suicide attack in Kabul today

KABUL, Afghanistan – On 13 March 2008, at about 0820 hrs, a suicide bomber hit a military convoy approximately 300 meters north-east of Massoud Circle in the centre of Kabul city causing a huge explosion. One soldier was injured in the blast and is being treated in a military hospital.

Reportedly nine civilians, including the suicide bomber, died and thirty-five citizens are reported to be injured by the explosion.

The multi-national forces along with Afghan authorities immediately secured the site of the explosion.

“Even though no ISAF soldiers were affected, we strongly condemn this cowardly attack in the centre of Kabul. This attack shows the real face of the Taliban, who have claimed responsibility for this barbarous action. Taliban has no respect for human life, the Afghan citizens or a peaceful future for Afghanistan," said Brigadier General Carlos Martins Branco, ISAF spokesman.
