KABUL, Afghanistan – A 20-year-old Afghan man received surgery after he was brought to an ISAF medical facility in Asadabad Jan. 25, alleging he had sustained wounds from a misfired round near an ISAF base in Kunar Province.

Despite medical personnel’s immediate and professional efforts, the man died from a loss of blood caused by his wounds.

ISAF officials are investigating the incident.

“ISAF provided immediate first aid to the injured civilian and attempted life-saving surgery,” said Lt. Col. Claudia Foss, ISAF spokesperson. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of this young man and our thoughts are with his bereaved family.”
