Italian PRT aids Herat juvenile correction center

KABUL, Afghanistan – Twenty new houses were presented to the juvenile correction center in Herat recently during a ceremony with the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) that helped fund the project.

The ceremony was attended by General Abdul Majia Sadeqi, the Penitentiary Institutes Commander in the west region, and Colonel Massimo Bettini, the Provincial Reconstruction Team Commander in Herat, Major Luca Di Fazio, the Civilian and Military Cooperation Center Commander, together with several local authorities who expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for all the work the Italian PRT has already done and is still doing for Afghan people.

The houses, which were completed in just a few months, were built on 4,350 square meters. The buildings each have two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, living room and small courtyard.

This work is part of a bigger plan in Herat Justice Ministry’s favour. They plan to reorganize several detention and re-education institutes in the city. In fact, the construction of a new women’s corrective center and the renewal of two buildings to be used as a rehabilitation center for drug-addicted people are in progress.
