Spanish king, leaders visit ISAF soldiers

KABUL, Afghanistan – Spain’s King Juan Carlos I visited ISAF troops of the Spanish Provincial Reconstruction Team in Herat recently.

Defence Minister José Antonio Alonso, Féliz Sanz Roldan, Chief of Defence Staff, and Carlos Villar Turrau, Chief of Army, accompanied the king to greet troops in Afghanistan.

Head of State and Commander-in-Chief, King Carlos wished a happy New Year to the Spanish soldiers serving with ISAF.

He also spoke by radio to the head of the Spanish troops deployed elsewhere in Afghanistan.

“I only want to wish you all the best for the New Year and I'm sorry I can't greet you personally,” he said.

King Carlos noted the splendid job the Spanish soldiers were doing in cooperation with soldiers from many nations and he encouraged them all to continue their good work. He also mentioned the tremendous support from all the families.

At the end of his tour, the king passed on best wishes for the New Year from the Royal Family in Spain and also gave mention to those who have fallen performing their duties on the abroad missions.
