ISAF evacuates two Afghan National Police for medical treatment

KABUL, Afghanistan – Two ANP personnel were treated for gunshot wounds and evacuated by an ISAF helicopter following a fire fight in a Geresk Bazaar this morning in Helmand Province.

The ANP personnel were injured in a shooting incident after a gunman fired a pistol directly at an ANP patrol in the area.  The ANP patrol returned fire and the gunman was killed.

ISAF troops then helped secure the site while providing basic first aid before evacuating the ANP personnel by helicopter for further medical treatment.

Also, ISAF was able to transfer a 12-year-old boy to the hospital at the same time on the MEDEVAC.  The boy had reported to the ISAF base close to Geresk and was suffering from burns sustained from a firework.

“The reaction by ISAF forces this morning demonstrates our support to the community of Geresk," said Lt. Col. Richard Eaton, a spokesman for Regional Command South.

No ISAF personnel were injured during this incident.
