ISAF strongly condemns suicide bombings

KABUL, Afghanistan – Statement by Maj. Gen. Garry Robison, acting commander of ISAF, regarding the Sept. 29 and Oct. 2 suicide bombings of Afghan National Security Force buses.

“I speak on behalf of COMISAF and all the ISAF nations in condemning the senseless act of violence that occurred in Kabul this morning, and we offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of all those who have died.  Many of the victims, once again, have been members of the Afghan National Security Forces who, like us, are committed to bringing security and stability to the people of Afghanistan.  On Saturday, our comrades in the Afghan National Army were struck down by violence perpetuated by extremists in the nation’s capital.  Today, we mourn the loss of Afghan National Police officers who have also given their lives supporting the civilian population.

These violent acts destroy innocent lives.  But they will not deter us in our commitment to create a better Afghanistan.  The insurgents offer nothing but violence and death.  ISAF remains steadfast in its support for the Government and, in particular, our colleagues in the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police.  We stand shoulder to shoulder with them at times such at this, and will continue to give our full support to this critical mission.”
