Tornados complete 500 flights

KABUL, Afghanistan – The ISAF Air Wing Mazar-e Sharif, German Tornado Reconnaissance forces, completed 500 flights recently.

Initially deployed in April, the aircraft averaged four flights per day in northern Afghanistan. With a total flying time of over 900 hours, the Tornados took more than 4,000 reconnaissance photographs in support of the ISAF mission.

The photos are used to improve ground assessment and situational awareness for ISAF military leaders, as well as using aerial assessments of natural disaster areas.

“The Tornado mission is vital to the success of ISAF and Afghan troops,” said German Col. Thorsten Poschwatta, Air Wing Mazar-e Sharif commander.
