Task Force Commander praises ANP after suicide bomb attack is foiled

KABUL, Afghanistan – Commander of the ISAF Task Force in Helmand province, Brigadier John Lorimer has praised the Afghan National Police after quick thinking officers prevented an attempted suicide bombing in Lashkar Gah yesterday.

The bomber approached the front gate of the Provincial Reconstruction Team headquarters where he was challenged by an Afghan National Police Officer. The bomber tried to detonate his suicide vest but it failed.

“The quick response of the Afghan National Police to this terrorist attack has undoubtedly saved lives today. This incident shows that they are alert and prepared for any eventuality,” said Brigadier Lorimer.

“Under the direction of the Chief of Police in Lashkar Gah, General Mohammed Hussain Andiwal and with mentoring by ISAF and US military and civilian police, the ANP are maturing into a capable and professional force who are making Lashkar Gah a safer place to live.”
