Taliban killed in attack on joint ANA, ISAF base

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Afghan National Army and ISAF soldiers killed a number of Taliban insurgents during a failed attack on their patrol base in central Helmand Province recently.

Soldiers working from Forward Operating Base Arnhem in the Hyderabad area were engaged by a number of enemy fighters from four separate firing points with small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades.

ANA soldiers from the 2nd Kandak, 3rd Brigade, 205 Corps and ISAF troops repelled the attack using small arms and heavy weapons, engaging a number of compounds housing enemy fighters. Coalition close air support was called in to conduct precision air strikes on positively identified enemy positions. A number of insurgents, including a local Taliban Commander were reported killed by direct fire during the attack.  

No ANA, ISAF or civilian casualties were reported following the incident.
