ISAF investigating death of child in Kaki-e Safid

FARAH PROVINCE, Afghanistan – A severely wounded child from Kaki-e Safid was transported to Herat military hospital for emergency treatment July 21.

An ISAF helicopter, with a medical team aboard, was dispatched from Provincial Reconstruction Team FARAH to transport the child and his escorting father to the military medical facility.

Shortly after arrival at the hospital, the child died of his wounds.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the boy and his family,” said Capt. Ettore Sarli, Regional Command West spokesman.  “Our medical personnel provided the very best medical treatment that they could, but unfortunately this wasn’t enough to save this child’s life.”

At this time, it is still not clear how the child was injured, said an ISAF official.

The ISAF teams at Herat and Farah PRTs are providing necessary support to the child’s family after their loss, the official added.
