ISAF helicopter fire wounds 3 police during engagement

KABUL, Afghanistan – Two policemen were killed in an insurgent ambush July 20 and afterwards three police were unintentionally wounded by ISAF helicopter fire.

In Shah Wali Kot district, Kandahar province, the two police officers were killed when insurgents opened fire on them at a checkpoint near Forward Operating Base Martello.

The three police were injured when an ISAF attack helicopter responded to help the police.  The helicopter fired on the three officers believing them to be insurgents.

The injured policemen were evacuated to an ISAF medical facility at Tarin Kowt for treatment. The condition of the three wounded police is not known at this time.
