Afghan man dies in road accident
while repairing vehicle

KHOWST, Afghanistan – One Afghan man died of his injuries today after a vehicle in a passing ISAF convoy hit him while he was attempting to repair his vehicle on the side of a road near Sharona, Paktika province.  The accident occurred July 16.

The man was immediately evacuated by an ISAF medical team to an ISAF medical facility after the incident but later died of his injuries.

“It was an unfortunate accident,” said Maj. John Thomas, ISAF spokesman.  “Roadways can be crowded and hazardous, but that does not lessen our regret and sense of the tragedy that befell this man and his family.”

According to ISAF officials, the convoy was passing a truck and trailer on the side of the road that was being worked on to repair a broken rear axle by the driver.
