Bomb kills, wounds dozens of civilians

KABUL, Afghanistan – More than a dozen civilians were killed, more than 30 civilians and eight ISAF soldiers were wounded, apparently by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in a bazaar in southern Afghanistan.

At least two of the injured civilians were children.  ISAF immediately provided medical care to injured civilians and soldiers.

“It is inhuman and despicable.  Taliban extremists have made claims recently about their concern for civilians,” said Maj. John Thomas, ISAF spokesman.  “This attack shows that these people are murderers who will target innocent people in a market.”

ISAF and Coalition soldiers evacuated some of the wounded to a military hospital in Tarin Kowt.  Some of the more seriously wounded are being transferred to another ISAF medical facility.
