Mortar falls short, hits house, no civilians injured

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – During an exchange of mortar fire between insurgents and ISAF forces in Kunar province July 8, one ISAF mortar fell short of the intended target, struck a house and caused damage to the building.

No civilians were injured in the accident. 

“ISAF forces do everything in their power to make sure civilians and their property are not injured or damaged during operations,” said Maj. Lance Hobson, Regional Command-East’s deputy chief of operations.  “We sincerely regret the damage to this home and will continue to take all precautions to avoid such incidents in future operations.”

ISAF forces are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the accident.
