Enemy mortars seen falling on civilian compounds

KABUL, Afghanistan – ISAF forces in Helmand province report observing at least two Taliban extremist 82mm mortar rounds falling on civilian compounds this morning.

The event is ongoing and ISAF forces are moving to protect the civilians under fire. The incident started with enemy firing small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars at Coalition troops, who are acting in direct support of an ISAF mission named Ghartse Ghar.

β€œAt this time our forces are attempting to eliminate the enemy threat to the civilians,” said Maj. John Thomas, IASF spokesman.
