Infant is sole survivor of IED blast

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – A 9-month old baby girl is clinging to life at an ISAF medical facility after an improvised-explosive device detonated on her family’s vehicle this morning in Kunar province and placed by Taliban extremists.

Her parents and an unidentified male family member were killed in the blast.

An Afghan National Police and ISAF patrol came upon the blast site in the Pech district. 

The 9-month-old girl was moved to a local ISAF base where she was stabilized by female medics before being evacuated with her uncle by helicopter to another ISAF medical facility.
