Taliban recruited 6-year-old suicide bomber

KABUL, Afghanistan –Juma Gal and Dad Gal  enjoy candy and conversation with Maj. David Pierce, at Tactical Assembly Area Thunder, Ghazni province, Afghanistan, earlier this week. The Taliban attempted to recruit young Juma to become a suicide bomber.

“They placed explosives on a 6-year-old boy and told him to walk up to the Afghan Police or Army and push the button,” said Capt. Michael P. Cormier, ISAF company commander.  “Fortunately, the boy did not understand and asked patrolling officers why he had this vest on.”

Lt. Col. Maria Carl, ISAF spokesperson, said this incident shows the contrast between ISAF and the Taliban.

“ISAF forces continue to work alongside the Afghan government to provide security for a brighter future.  This aim stands in stark contrast to the indiscriminate tactics of the Taliban extremists who often deliberately target civilians.”
