1 ISAF soldier, 2 Afghan police dead in S. Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan – An ISAF soldier died and three ISAF soldiers were wounded in southern Afghanistan in events during fighting today. Two Afghan National Policemen were also reported killed, as were a large number of enemy extremist fighters.

“We mourn the loss of the ISAF soldier and the Afghan policemen who committed their lives to Afghanistan’s future,” said Maj. John Thomas, ISAF spokesman. “Allied troops are fighting in the Tarin Kowt area to exert Afghan government control over a contested area.”

Fighting in the Chowreh district of Uruzgan province has been ongoing for three days.

"ISAF forces will prevail and the deaths of these brave men will not be in vain," Thomas said.

In accordance with NATO policy, ISAF does not release the nationality of ISAF casualties.
