British chief of defence staff visits eastern Afghanistan

FORWARD OPERATING BASE FENTY, Afghanistan – The United Kingdom’s chief of defence staff visited a number of bases and conducted a series of meetings with key leaders in northeastern Afghanistan recently.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup gathered information in a series of meetings at Forward Operating Base Fenty, the Asadabad Provincial Reconstruction Team and the Korengal Outpost in Kunar province, as well as Aranas in Nuristan province. The meetings occurred in ISAF’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division’s area of operations.

Stirrup met with Maj. Gen. David Rodriguez, Regional Command East commander, and other key leaders.

During the meeting, Stirrup asked about overall campaign planning, counter-narcotics efforts and the development of the Afghan National Army and police.

Later, at Asadabad, Stirrup met with other key Coalition leaders; including the PRT commander, Cmdr. Larry F. LeGree, U.S. Navy.
