1 ISAF soldier killed, 4 wounded in S. Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – One ISAF soldier died and four were wounded earlier today in southern Afghanistan during an engagement with enemy fighters.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the soldier who was killed and those who were injured in last night's attack," said Lt. Col. Mike Smith, spokesman, Regional Command South. "This was an important operation against Taliban extremists who are trying to destabilise the area."

The incident occurred during an operation to remove Taliban from their positions.  The injured soldiers were medically evacuated for treatment of their wounds.

In accordance with NATO policy, ISAF does not release a casualty’s nationality prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
